Andes is relaunched with a hub in Salta

by Gaston Doval

stormy times were those who lived Andes Airlines in recent months. The airline Salta, icon and pioneer of the last airline operator movement in Argentina, suffered a series of attacks by the press and the regulators themselves having to respond to them.

all started in January of this year, when a company flight en route from Salta to Buenos Aires - Jujuy, was diverted by a storm front and ended up landing in the town of Ponta Pora, in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso. That incident kicked off a string of other events that showed a worrying situation that was becoming, among a number of operational errors as a lush "log" maintenance in each of its planes. Having spent

Storm, Andes Airlines is preparing to start again and revive its flight capacity by making cuts on routes that had begun to operate. This decision corresponds to the trunk route of the airline, Salta - Buenos Aires, after the entry of LAN as an operator, joined the fierce competition that ensued between that airlines with a significant increase in frequency, were drained and drowned the yields ( gains) that the route, at the time one of the most lucrative in the Argentine market, delivered, hence the need to reallocate the frequencies most profitable aircraft.

addition to the above, José Ignacio Longo , a specialist in air environment Tucuman, says that after the elimination of subsidies Airlines Andes by the Government of that province from April 13, the airline would wipe out Tucumán as a destination. The same would occur with Jujuy. Tucumán not included in the reservation systems for travel after April 13.

Also, the company should revise its procedures so that the Secretariat of Transport re-grant the permission to operate charter flights / non-scheduled, one of its greatest sources of income.

The demanding schedule of the fleet for the peak season for charter flights in conjunction with the aforementioned lush "logs" of maintenance and "news" of the fleet, causing various delays / rescheduling and incidents involving Andes during the summer 2008/2009. Andes strategy will be to Salta as the third national hub, being behind Cordoba and Buenos Aires. The new plan, create routes Salta - Córdoba and Salta - Iguazu, two distinctly tourist routes that will help to expedite air traffic for our country, eliminating the need to cross Buenos Aires to make connections, in many cases is a waste of time and increased travel times required.

However, Buenos Aires maintain its link with the town of Puerto Madryn Chubut, which was the second route that the company operated Salta.

With 3 McDonnell Douglas MD80 aircraft, so far as they are not cleared from the company if it plans to cut the fleet, maintain or even expand it to smaller-sized aircraft, these will be the routes operated by airlines from Andes on April 29:

Salta - Córdoba (1x daily)
Salta - Iguazu (3x weekly)

In Argentina, there are many who claim the return of a model such as that operated in the 90 InterAUSTRAL therefore argue that there is demand for flights between cities in the interior enough to promote the bid. However, it is imperative to note that Andes Airlines enjoys a benefit based on the occupation floor / return flight, and that many of the data should be taken with tongs and be analyzed without taking into account the income generated by subsidies, they reflect a false result.
