The gradual withdrawal of GOL Airlines

by Gaston Doval
After starting operations in 2005 and increased aggregate destinations to and from Argentina in 2007, executives of the Brazilian airline GOL inexpensive began to review its South American model business.

While in Brazil, things are going well, although not the best, the airline began to have a sharp decline in its occupancy rates. The airline reported that average levels of the network began to drop below 50%.

After the start of the crisis, the airline GOL suffered a blow. The number of passengers declined significantly although during the first few months seemed to affect the airline's South American flights. However, the grip of recession in conjunction with the Influenza A H1N1, finished destroying employment levels of low-cost airline. In mid-June this year, the airline decided to cancel its route to Lima, Peru from Santiago de Chile, which was a continuation of the flight from Buenos Aires. As of August 15 this year, GOL will also unite Santiago de Chile to Buenos Aires, in what can only be called an attempt to regroup their flights in South America and mitigate what is a drain on the company.

financial crisis, the health and external constraints to the model in Latin America lowcost cause today, the gradual withdrawal of scoring for the regional market. Photo: Martín González.

Finally, if paid his departure from Chile, GOL will begin to review its 14 daily services to Argentina as the Brazilian ministers warning against travel to the country by the high rate of infection than influenza A H1N1 I was having within the country, traffic fell sharply in the Brazilian airline, weakening even more to lower levels than the same financial crisis had caused. This coupled with the fierce competition that exists on the routes between Brazil and Argentina, and the goodwill of Constantino de Oliveira Jr. to comply with an agreement with the federal government are forcing the first American budget airline to revise its model American business.

To date, GOL services in Argentina consist of:

6 flights daily between Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo.
2 flights daily between Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro.
2 flights daily between Buenos Aires and Porto Alegre.
2 flights daily between Buenos Aires and Santiago de Chile (canceled since 15/08/2009)
1 flight Rosary daily between Porto Alegre
1 flight daily between Cordoba and Porto Alegre

Oliveira Following the announcements this morning could be reduced significantly in the coming weeks, according to the reformulation of the strategies of low cost Brazilian international markets it operates.

In this sense, reducing Gol operations can be understood as an accumulation of factors, which not all relevant to the current state of the industry, and which derive more from the effects of the acquisition of Varig 2007, thought revive airline with a low cost model through which ensure success in a short time, a situation that did not happen, forcing the company to amend its scheme in various business opportunities in the international market. According to official figures from the ANAC, the international participation of GOL fell 13.86% for first half 2009 compared to 28.03% the previous period.

The current South American regional market structure has a series of restrictions on GOL's low cost model, which combined with an adverse situation the product of sustained low traffic and the consequences of the spread of H1N1 in countries, especially Argentina and the different realities of each country have combined to reverse of the company.
In summary, the model developed by GOL in addition to its limitation, was not sufficiently established as to sustain the beating that the financial crisis will tip the general aviation market.

again non-stop Bogotá tug

For Gastón Doval

After the departure of the Airbus A310 equipment with which you are flying to the Colombian capital, Aerolineas Argentinas was disrupted its operation to the city some time due to lack of adequate equipment to support the operation. During the course of 2008, the company turned to roll out services to the affected cities by the departure of the A310, Caracas and Bogota. At first it restarted with Airbus A340 during the periods for the operation to Miami, while Bogotá via Lima did Boeing 737-500, with this segment continued flight to the Peruvian capital.

The renewal of the fleet faced by the state administration brought new equipment, latest generation. The Boeing 737-700 recently brought into the country (2 purchased by the Government and 10 leased from GECAS company) serve to increase the efficiency of the fleet of airlines, which today has an average age of 16.5 years. The older aircraft Aerolineas Argentinas Boeing 737-200 (with an average of 26 years) will be the first to be replaced by the company since March 2010, once the type of aircraft is 40 years in active duty the company, a milestone seldom succeeded by another plane.

As was mentioned in a previous opinion piece , airlines would use the new Boeing 737-700 in these destinations affected by the output of A310 fleet of the airline. With the return to Bogota, Airlines returns to try to recover a premium segment that was lost with the start of operations via Lima, at the hands of Colombia's Avianca, now the only airline with non-stop flight to El Dorado Airport.

The flights will begin on August 17, 2009 and will operate three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Operate with the following schedule:

AR1360 EZE 0800 1240 BOG BOG
AR1361 EZE 1340 2156

only remains to know, how they will affect the height restrictions imposed in the city of Bogotá to the performance of Boeing 737-700.

Negatives To The Flu Vaccine

: Passengers in the middle frequency increases

by Gaston Doval

finish
Nothing can excuse the amount of delay that there was (and still are) in Aerolineas Argentinas flights this week. This week, the delay came at high levels not seen since the era Marsans, when the company had a punctuality rate of 31%, according to Radio Mitre that gave the brand new General Manager of the company, Mariano Recalde.

After taking the position Recalde gave estimates that the Business Plan was being developed at the offices of airlines, to present to Congress, would reverse losses in the medium term, more or less in 5 years.

However, those who claim to have true control in the company are the two largest unions - APLA (Association of Airline Pilots), which responds to Jorge Perez Tamayo, and APTA (Association of Aeronautical Technical Staff ), which responds to former Undersecretary of Commercial Air Transport, Ricardo Cirielli. Mariano Recalde's arrival to the management of Aerolineas Argentinas alarms turned the heads of the latter group.

Héctor Recalde, Mariano's father, is the attorney for the General Confederation of Labour. His son, also was Guild adviser Aerolineas Argentinas pilots for a long time. It is for this reason that the union of Aeronautical taenicide went on high alert when it was revealed the appointment. Fear, said in APTA, is that Recalde (son) is "pro-APLA ", given its link, will "leave out" of any important negotiation within the enterprise.

After all, living trying to prove they have the power. This week, the backlog reached unbelievable levels. Yesterday, the newspaper Clarin published an article which denote the delays had on flights (especially) international Aerolineas Argentinas. Article aware of delays in flight AR1302 (to Miami), AR1182 (Sydney) and AR1254 (Rio de Janeiro). All delayed for technical reasons .

Meanwhile, on-time passengers are suffering and protest. The AADeTUR produced a report which says that within 15 (fifteen) days of the month of June " Aerolineas Argentinas and Austral, achieved a punctuality rate of 41.88% " He also emphasizes that " l a state company had reached in the first hundred days a year, a rate of 77.20% punctuality. "

wondered why, if punctuality had risen so much in these days was disastrous. It had something to do with the appointment of someone so close to the CGT as CEO? Might have had to do with the limited fleet Airlines long haul? A new union bid? What is certain is that airlines remains the airline's most unstable region, a title that continues depraved travelers, something that needs to survive.

I Gagged Blood When Brushing Teeth

Lufthansa, AeroMexico Delta

by Gaston Doval

Although the recession is still showing its claws in the air, Delta Air Lines and Lufthansa have not made cuts in current services to Buenos Aires. The decline in the number of passengers seems to have affected the services of the two carriers.
The maintenance of existing services can easily be reflected in the lack of flights to the destinations they fly (thanks to the limits imposed by the outdated bilateral agreements with Argentina maintaining other countries), in addition to providing efficient connection to other parts of the world - that helps keep them occupied.

Germany's Lufthansa increase to a daily flight service to Buenos Aires, being at present in 5 weeks frequencies annals. Photo: Tsuyoshi Hayasaki .

is why, during the high season in Argentina, or IATA Winter, Germany's Lufthansa will increase to 7 flights per week, leaving the frequency between Buenos Aires and Frankfurt to a daily flight. Remarkably, Lufthansa, last year ceased to operate via Sao Paulo, as this was no longer an advantage when it decided to withdraw the second daily flight to the continent's most important city South America. The flights will be operated with Boeing 747-400.

Delta approximately 20% increase in capacity offered, maintaining its daily flight from Atlanta. Photo: Jerry Pang .

In contrast, the U.S. Delta Air Lines is unable to add frequencies to the type of bilateral agreement that kept the United States and Argentina. An increase in demand and often require an extra exposure to the DOT (Department of Transportation) and the regulatory burden to the Secretary of Transportation of the Nation. Therefore, Delta decided to increase the capacity offered by changing the team that operates the route (Buenos Aires - Atlanta) a Boeing 767-400/ER Boeing 767-300/ER a, which implies an increase of 42 supply seats daily. Both
schedule changes will be made from October 24 this year, for the start of the IATA Winter.

Vitamins That Cause Hard Stool

capacity increases capacity to Buenos Aires LAN

by Gaston Doval

Faced with a poor utilization of capacity and programming of widebody aircraft and the lack of frequencies available in the Mexico - Buenos Aires, AeroMexico decided this week to increase the capacity of our nation's capital.

competition on this route is low, but the lack of available frequencies dictates the Bilateral Treaty for each side (14 frequencies per week) appears to be insufficient for the needs of the airline azteca. Currently, Mexicana Airlines is using 12 frequencies of the 14 awarded. The other 2 are held by AeroMexico. The Argentine government gave in to the other 3 frequencies that correspond to the Argentine airline, but should be returned in case of need. Still, flying AeroMexico is currently 3 times per week to the City of Buenos Aires.

The new capacity will increase with a mix of aircraft, Boeing 767 and more specifically the newly acquired Boeing 777-200ER. Photo: Ricardo Morales Centeno

The change in trading is due to wanting to make better use of aircraft on a route that is still giving good results for AeroMexico, unlike Santiago de Chile, thanks to lack of aircraft left relegated about their direct competition.

PLUNA terminated agreements with Aerolineas Argentinas

by Gaston Doval

As a backlash to the crisis created by the Secretary of Transportation, the company decided Pluna Uruguay terminate all agreements it had with Aerolineas Argentinas in Buenos Aires Airlift - Montevideo and Buenos Aires route - Punta del Este.

The airline's decision expresses the discomfort caused by the rejection, to its newly acquired subsidiary in Argentina, AeroVip, to requests for authorization to fly the route Trelew - Montevideo - San Pablo.

Breaking "relationship" means no more protection for passengers of the other endorsements or free as it used to be up early this week. For passengers, the breakdown of relations between the two airlines means that if a flight is canceled or another company can not be sent passengers flying companies in the other.

the end of the month
May, PLUNA deprogrammed one of its Bombardier CRJ900 NextGen (more specifically, the CX-CRG), to change its name to "AeroVip" and Reissues with Argentine record, according to DNA: LV-BYW.
PLUNA

Volunteer Veterinary Cover Letter

Ready to Fly: Trelew - San Pablo by Aerolineas Argentinas

by Gastón Doval

In recent weeks the dispute flew to the province of Chubut. Since its largest city, Trelew, Province Governor Mario Das Neves announced that the Uruguayan PLUNA start offering frequencies (in 6th freedom) from the city into the economic center of Chubut largest southern cone, the City of San Pablo, Brazil.

Chubut Government would provide financial assistance to the Uruguayan airline, that this veería making plans to start flying cabotage in different countries of the region, including Argentina and Chile, since bought PLUNA AeroVip, a Argentina airline without planes but permits to begin operations, registering an aircraft in Argentina (a CRJ900 and LV-BYW, ex CX-CRG).

However, the Transportation Secretary's Office, Ricardo Jaime refused permission to fly to PLUNA from Trelew. As much as it may seem completely unprecedented, as it runs completely within the law, because the provinces can not allow air routes, only the Nation.

In this context, Ricardo Jaime, decided that the management of Aerolineas Argentinas make an offer to the province of Chubut to start flying non-stop route. Thus, the province agreed and the first flight "exploratory" was held this Saturday, and arrived at the airport Marcos Zar Trelew to 15.36, according to the newspaper El Chubut ". The aircraft was received by the Minister of Foreign Trade, Tourism and Investment in the province of Chubut, Secretaries of Tourism of different municipalities, and the Director of Airport and Terminal City.

The purpose of the flight will only resort. Chubut province has large untapped tourist attractions and is the objective of promoting the ENTRETUR the tourism, people outside the country. The greatest exponents, Peninsula Valdes and whale migration in all years.

The need for the province of Chubut for this flight may be little urgency, but nevertheless shows that there are other centers of commerce in the country as well as Buenos Aires and, even 2 times a week, it is important to promote them in various ways. This is how many airlines are taking advantage of the few ideas that Aerolineas Argentinas had, and are taking to decentralize the hub of Buenos Aires and give other options to passengers.

Airlines introduced its new Boeing 737-700 LAN Argentina

by Gaston Doval, photos of Nicolas Rubio

On Monday, June 8, 2009, in the presence of the President of Argentina, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner General Manager of Aerolineas Argentinas, Julio Alak and the Minister of Federal Planning and Public Investment, Julio De Vido, Aerolineas Argentinas was the official launch of two new aircraft will begin operating from July in the company's routes .

These 2 are the Boeing 737-700 aircraft, of which is expected to bring 10 units. One is the first installment of a new aircraft that Aerolineas Argentinas is 16 years, the latter being a McDonnell Douglas MD88 delivered in 1993.

The presentation was also attended pilots union officers Aerolineas Argentinas and different media.

These new aircraft will operate on routes that operate today, Boeing 737-200, which already have more than 40 years of proceedings at the company. The measurement is carried out to try to streamline the network of cabotage in addition to old aircraft, it can not match income to expenses, since the Argentine coastal rates are regulated by minimum and maximum bands, which not allow the company to collect what is actually required for the flight.

There is another factor that management is taking Aerolineas Argentinas account, and under the direct order of the Secretary of Transportation, the new aircraft should not be scheduled on flights abroad since, even without being publicly stated, there is fear that the Government's assets are seized by Aerolineas Argentinas judgments of creditors to Argentina debt swap of 2005. Judge Thomas Griess, New York judge hearing the case of creditors against Argentina ruled in favor of Aerolineas Argentinas saying the airline is "Argentina entity with separate legal status" and not a "alter ego " of Argentina. This, according to judge, means that the assets of the company can not be taken in cases of creditors against the Government.

Needless to say, that if regional flights will be operated by 737-700 if they make corresponding structural changes, because, at least from SkyEurope, have no proper structure to reach its MTOW, if not to a lower value.

The entry into service of the 737-700 mean a reduction in operating older aircraft today, there are only 7 (seven) 737-200 operating in cabotage, which would longer used for regular service before the end of the year, but is also expected to remain in active service as a "backup" until at least March. This is not an earlier date, as it was in March 1969 when it began operating Aerolineas Argentinas Boeing 737-200. The mark 40 years is not easy to reach a milestone, and only aircraft like the Douglas DC-9 has reached. No 737-200 came to reaching the milestone of 40 years with a single operator, airlines would be the first to reach 40 years with the 737-200.

So begins a new stage in Aerolineas Argentinas, one where even though there is a refurbishing of the fleet and put day the airline will have to work hard to raise the international prestige 17 years the company suffered after the failed and corrupt administrations.

Air Canada Airlines increases capacity to Santiago and Buenos Aires with Boeing 777-300ER arrived

By Ricardo J. Delpiano via Live from SCL

order to adapt the capacity offered in the Northern Hemisphere winter season, and in view of the success that the company has been gaining in the market of Argentina and Chile, with a significant increase in the transport of passengers and cargo, Air Canada will introduce its new Boeing 777-300ER on the route Toronto-Santiago-Buenos Aires.

The measure will become effective starting from 1st December 2009 and will extend over the southern hemisphere summer, which will allow Air Canada to improve significantly, not only in terms of capacity offered, but in the quality of its services with the advantages of the newest Boeing 777s have company. Unlike other seasons, Air Canada has decided to increase capacity at one of the main routes to South America, rather than modify the service, reducing or increasing the capacity according to the circumstances as has been implementing since the Canadian airline landed in Chile and Argentina. In equal measure, the decision to introduce the B777-300ER Air Canada indicated that its bid will not split between the two capitals such as occurred during the last summer season, betting directly by an increase in capacity, devoting only two aircraft for both markets instead of four, besides allowing to maintain services between Santiago and Buenos Aires, taking advantage of traffic generated between the two cities especially during the holiday season.

Air Canada will introduce its modern Boeing 777-300ER on the route Toronto-Santiago-Buenos Aires to count from 1 December 2009 to replace the Boeing 767-300ERs, as they spread throughout the summer season 2009/2010. Photo: Mike Moores / Airliners.net.

Reportedly, Air Canada will operate the route daily Toronto-Santiago-Buenos Aires and back, keeping the current schedule.

The introduction of the Boeing 777-300ER on the route will represent an approximate increase of 40% in daily capacity, equivalent to 4,886 seats offered per week, making Air Canada into a North American company offers more space. At the end of the first quarter, the airline has transported 176,120 passengers per kilometer, representing an increase of 0.1% compared to the previous period. However, in the cargo business, the company is no stranger to the world situation, recording a drop in quarterly cumulative of 2,860 tons per kilometer, representing a negative growth of -53.1% as indicated by the Civil Aeronautics Board.
One of the reasons for the success of Air Canada is the interesting offer nonstop flights to the North American country, and the possibilities of connection to all cities in Canada and major U.S. cities U.S., plus the offer of flights to Europe, Asia and Israel from Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver. The company has a modern fleet of 35 Airbus A319s, 41 A320s, 10 A321s, eight A330-300, 30 Boeing 767-300ERs, 6 B777-200LR and 11 B777-300ERs, plus 15 and 45 Embraer ERj170 ERj190. Its regional affiliate Jazz has 13 aircraft CRJ100/-200 Bombardier, CRJ700 and Dash 8-100/-Q300. The Boeing 777-300ER aircraft are configured in two classes, with 42 seats in Executive First and 307 seats in Economy Class and currently operate in high density routes from the company to Asia and Europe and Latin America in Sao Paulo.

Despite its difficult financial situation, which fell 39% according to its latest quarterly balance sheet, says Air Canada is in a good position on the difficult global economic scenario, for which only need to make some "minor adjustments", without significantly restructure the company, according to said Calin Rovinescu Reuters last week.
